My name is Robert Amsterdam.  I am an international lawyer and founder of the law firm Amsterdam & Partners.  Over the years my practice has taken some interesting turns, leading me to represent clients in significantly challenging markets, including Russia, Nigeria, Ghana, Guatemala, and Venezuela, among others.  In many emerging economies, solving a business problem or capturing an appealing opportunity involves strategic contact with government and other political stakeholders.  Sometimes this is done skillfully, and many other times this engagement leads corporations and investors into difficult areas.
